Indian Summer and Then Some

It was 90 degrees at the pumpkin patch today! Luckily, the kids didn't seem to mind.

Space Shuttle and Rain

We went out to see the Space Shuttle on Friday. We woke up to the helicopters that were tracking its every move, and after seeing a few friends post photos I looked it up and found that Endeavor was currently parked very nearby our house, near the place we always go for divey Mexican food. In addition to the Shuttle, policemen, firefighters and all manner of excitement, it rained on us a bit, so Jackson got to open an umbrella too.

Park Day: Culver City Park

Jackson's still too little to climb on this thing, but...GEOMETRY!
Culver City Park is a little park up on a hill near Duquesne and Jefferson on the back end of Culver City, where the studio backlots once stop. Everyone was very nice and it was a fun playspace, but it was a little dirtier than I prefer my parks to be. On the other hand, it's located near a skate park AND a dog park and higher up they have all the Little League ballfields, so there's quite a bit to see while you're there.

Before Columbus Day Festival

Whee, Indigenous Peoples' Day! This trip to the 16th Annual Gabrielino/Tongva Before Columbus Day Festival at Serra Springs/Kuruvungna was a good advance scouting trip for what ought to be an annual event. Anything with music, waterplay, crawdads, tamales and local history is A-OK by me!

"Whatcha doin' Jackson?" "Nothin'. Just hangin' out with my cool dad, holding a shoe and bein' bald."

For some reason I felt compelled to prove there are crayfish in the spring ponds. See: Crayfish!

This is the inside of the museum located at the site. It used to be a "classroom" in the "horticulture area" of my esteemed alma mater, University High (which is on the same lot as the springs).

Wide shot of the springs. There's a lot of water there, I swear, it's just hard to see from this angle.

We Shaved the Kid's Head

We shaved the kid's head, at his request (so he looks like daddy). I have mixed feelings, but as you can see below, he's quite happy with it all.

Eco-Station Tour

"BUNNY!" "No, that's a chinchilla." "Oh. That's not good. Chinchillas are not good. I like bunnies."
